Barcelona is for Lovers: Romantic Things to do in Barcelona

February 10th, 2020 by Prontopia

If you thought Virginia is for lovers, you might have to reconsider. (Just kidding, Virginians!). With its narrow streets, stunning architecture, and delicious cuisine, Barcelona is just about as romantic as it gets. Whether you're visiting with a new sweetheart or traveling with your lifetime love, there are innumerable romantic things to do in Barcelona.

Make sure that you get lost in each other's eyes... not in the streets of Barcelona. Nothing is mood killer quite like the jet-lagged, hangry bickering that can arise during the stresses of traveling. Ensure your trip is smooth sailing and as stress-free as possible by using Prontopia for in-person assistance with any challenges you may run into together.

These tips will help inform your arrival in Barcelona

Let's get started!

1. Get cozy at a rooftop bar.

There's nothing that will take your relationship to new heights like a romantic evening spent overlooking Barcelona from one of its many rooftop bars. Enjoy a glass of Spanish wine or a fancy cocktail and watch as the sun dims over the city. Many hotels in Barcelona have rooftop bars that are available to those who aren't guests at the hotel. Some fun options are Hotel Pulitzer, Hotel H1898: Bar Isabela, and Ohla Barcelona: New York Style. Depending on the time of year, like during festivals, you might even be able to catch some fireworks.

2. Snap along to a traditional flamenco show.

Flamenco is an expressive traditional dance that dates back centuries in Spain, carried on by dedicated artisans. Flamenco is made up of guitar playing (guitarra), song (cante), and dance (baile). Experiencing an authentic flamenco show and a glass of wine with your love is the perfect way to end a day exploring Barcelona. Palau de la Musica is in a stunning building and is a larger venue than some; you may want to get orchestra seats (they aren't much more expensive). Palau Dalmases is also very popular. It's more low-key but hosts an incredibly talented group of performers in a more intimate setting. You could also try Tablao Flamenco de Cordobes or Palacio del Flamenco (here's a sneak peak).

3. Kiss in front of Barcelona's famous kissing mural.

What may look like graffiti from a distance turns into an intricate collage of photos from Barcelona locals upon closer inspection. The mural is called El Món Neix en Cada Besada, or "The World Begins With Every Kiss" and was created by Joan Fontcuberta. Head over to Plaça d’Isidre Nonell, Barcelona for a romantic photo op and a smooch of your own!

4. Take a sunset cruise.

You've likely spent time wandering the narrow streets of Barcelona's neighborhoods, and maybe evening experiencing the city from above. Now, get an off-shore perspective of Barcelona on a romantic sunset cruise! There are many boat tour providers that offer romantic experiences ranging from one hour to many hours, like snorkeling, tapas and wine, paddle boarding, or guided tours of Barcelona's history. Try Barcelona Sailing Today, Boat Trip Barcelona, or Catamaran Orsom (this one features a saxophonist!).

5. Share a romantic dinner.

Spain is well-known for its delicious array of cuisine, and there are many options for a romantic dinner in Barcelona. Have a glass of Spanish wine and relish in the cozy, upscale, and romantic environments scattered all throughout the city. Try Casa Angela for an array of Spain's famous paellla in the Sagrada Familia area. Hotel Neri offers a romantic environment very near the Placa Sant Felip Neri square - complete with a wishing fountain and other couples wandering through the low-lit square. Restaurante Palmera, Barcanete, and Escriba Xiringuito are also lovely options.
