Street Art In Florence

Florence is most known for its medieval and Renaissance style art, so you might be surprised to know that there’s actually a thriving street art scene in Florence. And like all good street art, street art in Florence reflects the city’s history- and heart- in a unique way. Prontopia asked one Florentine to share her thoughts on Street Art in Florence.

In Florence you are never alone, there is beauty everywhere you go. It can be a little bit overwhelming at first, but if you let your feet take you step-by-step through the heart of the renaissance city, your heart starts to open up to all of its beauty, just like a flower

One of the things I love most about my city is that it keeps its history and traditions alive while continuing to evolve its forms of art. Now more than ever we need hope and inspiration, and if you keep your eyes open, you will find love and hope around every corner in Florence.

Here are some of my favorite examples of street art in Florence:

Cupido in Florence

I always loved this sweet street art "Cupido", which reminds us that we all need a warm hug sometimes, especially in these hard times. This one is even sweeter since it's hidden on a side street in the back of a parking lot, another reminder to keep your eyes open and keep looking for beauty!

Phoenix in Florence

The Phoenix symbolizes renewal by rising from its ashes to create a new life. Like a phoenix, Florence was and still is an ever-rising renaissance city. We’ve been through wars, plagues, economic disasters and more governments than we can count, and still we rise, with our traditions strong and our hearts and minds stronger.

Butterfly in Florence

Lately more and more street art butterflies have been seen around the city of Florence. Not only are they beautiful but they are also a deep and powerful representation of life. Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life. This one always reminds me that maybe now we are all just in the caterpillar stage, with something beautiful ready to burst forth soon.

By keeping an open heart and eye in Florence streets - we hope you will find the inspiration you need to stay strong. My hope for this year is that all transform our fears into beautiful butterflies and give endurance, change, hope and life to the world we all are a part of.
